Road Safety Council chair steps down
Therese Bajada cites 'work commitments' as decision to quit after two years
Therese Bajada has resigned as Road Safety Council chair, citing “work commitments”.
The Road Safety Council advises on improving road safety measures and promotes awareness, best practices and policy recommendations.
“It is up to the ministry now to find a new chair to continue with the work,” Bajada said when approached for comment.
She said the decision to resign was hers, adding that the council was operating and meeting quarterly under her tenure.
“Following careful consideration, I have decided to resign from my post as chairperson of the Malta Road Safety Council. This resignation is related to my work commitment and responsibilities. I thank the Ministry of Transport for the trust given to me and I thank all the members of the council for allowing me to work closely with them,” she wrote in her resignation letter.
Bajada was appointed chair of the Council in November 2023 succeeding Pierre Vella.
A transport geographer with a PhD in Transport Studies from University College London, she serves as a senior lecturer at the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Development.
Her research focuses on transport policy and planning, particularly in road safety, public transport and sustainable mobility.
Before entering academia in 2010, she served at Transport Malta, where she worked on road injury accident data and various national and regional projects.
