Robbie Williams entertains Malta all over again
British pop star performs greatest hits and indulges in nostalgia, self-deprecation
Robbie Williams returned to Malta on Wednesday night in a show of nostalgia, humour and heartfelt moments that saw him reclaim the stage with characteristic showmanship.
From the explosive opener Let Me Entertain You to closing with his classics Feel and Angels, this was Robbie Williams at his greatest for two solid hours: playful, poignant, and present.
He swept through a career-spanning medley and delivered standout hits like Millennium and Rock DJ when he performed to thousands of fans on the Granaries in Floriana.
Between songs, the British star wove in personal stories, from cheeky Take That memories to candid reflections on family life and personal struggles.
In between, he punctuated his set with snippets of other classic songs, from The Beatles' Hey Jude to Queen's Under Pressure to A-Ha's Take on Me.
Williams played a two-hour set.As expected, he once again engaged closely with his audience, this time picking a woman in the front row - Ruth - and serenaded her with a tender rendition of She’s the One.
The 51-year old's blend of charm, wit, and self-deprecating humour, especially when joking about fame, fortune, and being the “king of entertainment”, kept the atmosphere intimate and authentic.
The cover of Frank Sinatra's My Way stood out as a powerful statement of his journey.
