Party leaders cast their votes
Robert Abela, Alex Borg, Arnold Cassola and Sandra Gauci vote in polling stations across Malta

Party leaders cast their votes in the 2026 general election on Saturday morning, urging other voters to do the same.
Labour leader Abela cast his vote at a polling station in Żejtun while Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg voted in Munxar, Gozo.
Borg was accompanied by electoral commissioner Salvu Sant and greeted at the Munxar polling station by PN MEP and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
"I urge everyone to vote so we can give Malta a fresh start," Borg said after voting, as he thanked journalists for having made it to Gozo.
Abela was accompanied by his wife Lydia. In a short video message posted to social media, Abela said voters "hold an important key in their hands" through their vote.
"You deserve to have a say in this country's leadership," he said as he urged people to vote.
The Labour and Nationalist party leaders are vying to become Malta’s next prime minister.
Momentum chairman Arnold Cassola and secretary general Mark Camilleri Gambin voted in Pembroke at around 11am.
Cassola encouraged voters to "follow their conscience".
"Your conscience will tell you what is best for Malta," he said.
ADPD leader Sandra Gauci voted at a polling station in Qawra at 12.15pm.
President Myriam Spiteri Debono voted in Birkirkara at around 12pm.

In brief comments to journalists outside the polling station, Metsola urged voters to "exercise their democratic right to vote on this very important day for Malta".
Voting began on Saturday morning at 7am and will continue until 10pm this evening. Vote sorting and counting will begin on Sunday morning.
