Malta ‘only country’ to call election over Middle East crisis - Alex Borg
PN's proposals will touch upon every facet of society, PN leader says

Alex Borg on Thursday claimed Malta was one of, if not the only European country whose government had called an election due to the Middle East crisis.
Addressing an event in Għargħur on day three of the election campaign, the Opposition leader then went on to insist that Robert Abela had called an early election out of fear that the Nationalist Party was growing in strength.
Borg pointed out that in the lead up to the snap election, Labour’s own president had said it would be crazy to call an election amid this crisis.
Borg said Labour’s deputy leader Alex Agius Saliba was equally dismissive about the prospect of an early election.
The PN leader said Labour’s plan was to catch the Opposition unawares.
This plan, he continued, had failed.
Borg vowed that the PN will continue to go from strength to strength, and had proven it was prepared for the general election with a list of proposals, candidates and billboards.
The PN leader pledged that throughout the campaign, the party will unveil proposals that will "touch upon every facet of society".
Borg further slammed what he claimed was the government’s use of public resources to push Labour’s message.
He said government billboards were being used to advertise Labour messages, and screensavers of government slogans were even being pushed out on civil service devices.
On his party, PN deputy leader Alex Perici Calascione pitched May’s election as the most important one in recent years.
He said people’s vote will determine the type of Malta people choose to live in.
Perici Calascione said that while 13 years of Labour had seen certain positive advances, other aspects had changed the very face of Malta.
He said the Labour government had introduced an "everything goes mentality", and Malta’s values had been eroded.
During Thursday's activity, interventions were made by the Nationalist candidates contesting the Ninth District, which includes Għargħur, Msida, Swatar, Tal-Pietà, San Ġwann, Kappara, Swieqi, Madliena and Ta’ Xbiex.
PN candidates on the 9th district ballot include Graziella Attard Previ, Graham Bencini, Eve Borg Bonello, Albert Buttigieg, new candidate Marilena Gauci, Beppe Fenech Adami, Joe Giglio, Jonathan Muscat, and Noel Muscat.
