PL pledges car grants of up to €12,000 for families with more than three kids
Party to release manifesto on Friday
Robert Abela will present the Labour Party's manifesto to party delegates on Friday, the PL leader announced on Thursday as he pledged car grants of up to €12,000 for families.
Speaking at a Labour Party event in Żebbuġ, he said the PL manifesto was "innovative" because of its focus on well-being through an index.
First revealed early on in the campaign, the PL's wellbeing index will be built on 10 "dimensions", all with equal importance.
The dimensions are: environmental sustainability, the local environment, health, personal wellbeing, housing, social protections, civic participation, income and wealth, education and skill, and job quality.
Each of those 10 dimensions features two measurable indicators that will be used to gauge the performance of any particular electoral proposal.
In general a new labour government will aim to improve overall well-being by 25 per cent.
Car grants and more
During Thursday's rally in Żebbuġ , Abela also announced a number of new pledges.
These included a car grant for parents with more than three children.
Under the PL’s plan those parents will be able to tap into a €5,000 grant to buy a larger vehicle. That grant will jump to €12,000 if the vehicle is electric.
Another pledge aims to keep workers who have paid 40 years of national insurance contributions from retiring.
Currently those over 61 years old can retire if they have paid four decades' worth of contributions.
On Thursday Abela pledged that those who choose to stay in the workforce will receive a benefit of €500 a year until they reach the retirement age of 65. That benefit is additional to the already announced €1,000 super bonus pledge.
Those who want to construct a “sustainable building” that does not use much energy will have all their planning fees refunded, Abela also promised voters.
