The Masquerade Theatre Company is injecting new vitality into the story of the birth of Jesus Christ by staging the musical Rock Nativity.

Rock Nativity re-tells the most famous story in history to a rock beat with a contemporary sensibility and a pop score, which incorporates several well-known Christmas carols.

The musical is being staged at St James Cavalier between December 21 and 30, with two shows per day on December 22, 28 and 29.

The cast consists of around 45 youngsters aged between 10 and 19 who are students of Masquerade Theatre Arts School. The production is being directed by Chris Gatt under the choreography of Sandra Mifsud.

Musical direction is in the hands of Simone Attard while Simona Mamo is responsible for costume design.

Mary and Joseph, the Three Wise Men, shepherds and other familiar characters will be singing and dancing to an entertaining blend of light rock and jazzy music written by Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent with lyrics by David Wood.

The evening shows start at 7.30, while the matinee shows start at 5 p.m. Booking is now open at St James Cavalier on tel. 21 223200.
