International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge endorsed Kenya's proposed bid for the 2016 Summer Games as he wound up his five-day tour of the country yesterday.
"Kenya has good weather and good facilities which they used to host the All African Games in 1987 and the administrative ability to host the Games," Rogge said. "If they place a bid for the Games, yes the IOC will support them."
The Minister for Sport Ochillo Ayacko caused a stir on Wednesday when he announced that Kenya would bid to host the 2016 Olympics.
Rogge initially said he was surprised by the announcement. The IOC president has been in the east African country since Monday. During his visit, he attended Kenya's 50th anniversary since joining the Olympic movement and presided over the official opening of their headquarters.
