The Roma Club Malta (www.romaclubmalta.com) recently marked the opening of their new premises.
Various distinguished personalities from the football scene were present for the celebrations, including officials from other locally-based supporters clubs.
On the occasion, club president Ray Sant delivered a short speech to thank those present and highlighted the plans of his committee for the future.
Among the special guests was former club president Noel Enriquez. He presented the club with an old Roma 'striscione' (see picture) that has an unusual story behind it.
Enriquez said the banner was hanging at the Olympic Stadium for the first time on October 27, 1974 for the league match against Bologna.
Roma won 2-0 on the day but the visiting supporters went on the rampage after the final whistle. They burned all streamers belonging to the home fans except the one of the Maltese supporters which was retrieved by a group of 'tifosi giallorossi' from Tivoli.
Since then, the banner was kept in a safe place but has now found a new home at the club in Zabbar.
