Romanian artist Maria Iosub's landscape paintings will go on display today at an exhibition being held at St James Cavalier, in Valletta.

The exhibition, entitled Re-interpretations, will run until September 28.

The 24 landscapes from European cities feature mixed techniques, including pastel, tempera and watercolour.

Eminent art critic Nicolai Macvci described Ms Iosub's work as "showing absolute originality of treating a subject".

Through her paintings, Ms Iosub's primary intention is to interpret profoundly any landscape, seascape or building.

Speaking about Malta and, in particular, Valletta where she now lives, Ms Iosub said that visiting the island was like unravelling an enigma. "This place always fascinated me mentally but now I confirm this strange beauty. Valletta is a living museum, where each corner suggests a work of art."

Her paintings have been exhibited in Frankfurt, Istanbul, Venice and Bucharest.
