Rooftop Series returns to Floriana’s Catholic Institute
A range of performances including flamenco, theatre, literature and live music
The Rooftop Series is set to return this summer with an expanded programme of multidisciplinary performances atop the Catholic Institute in Floriana. Running from July 10 to September 10, the series has grown into a fully-fledged boutique summer festival curated by the Office of the Archbishop’s Delegate for Culture.
Following the success of its 2024 debut, which featured three sold-out events, this year’s edition will offer audiences a range of performances including flamenco, theatre, literature and live music, all set against the panoramic backdrop of Valletta’s skyline.
The festival opens on July 10 with a headline performance by Puerto Flamenco, led by internationally acclaimed flamenco dancer Francesca ‘La Chica’ Grima. She will be joined by percussionist Andrej Vujicic, singer Antonio Castro ‘El Antoñete’, guitarist Ruben Romero and dancer Tremendo Hijo.
On July 30, ILSNA takes the stage in a cross-cultural concert featuring Maltese singer Ruth Borg, Dutch composer Jethro Cooke, Pete Borg and vocalist Fleur Van Der Berg. Their set will include original, unreleased songs performed in Maltese.
The festival will close on September 10 with a concert by Claire Tonna, who will be joined by a string quartet and choir for an unplugged performance blending original compositions with orchestral arrangements.
Now in its second year, the Rooftop Series is guided by creative director Andrew Borg Wirth, artistic director and co-producer Annalisa Schembri and graphic designer Sera Galea. The event is rooted in values of intercultural exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.
The Rooftop Series Summer Festival is supported by Visit Malta, Cheeky Monkey Gastropub and Piscopo Gardens. The opening evening is also supported by the Spanish Embassy in Malta.
The initiative is part of the broader cultural mission led by Mgr Claude Portelli, the first delegate for culture appointed by Archbishop Charles Scicluna in 2023. The office aims to foster dialogue between the Church and the artistic community by supporting innovative cultural projects across Malta.
Tickets for the opening night are now available. More information is available at culture.church.mt.
