David Agius complained about the need for a clean-up at L-Ahrax tal-Mellieha (Rubbish Management, November 7). His suggestion is commendable but why not put up a notice in popular picnic or other recreational areas asking people to take their own rubbish back home with them and dispose of it in the appropriate way, for example by taking it to a bring-in-site?
Besides, in most locations in Malta and Gozo, domestic waste is collected daily from everyone's door-step - free of charge too, contrary to the practice in some countries.
Surely the rubbish from a day's outing packed up in a plastic bag is easier to carry back home than the provisions which are brought out for the day!
We citizens cannot expect waste collectors to drive all over the place to clear up our mess. It seems that we take daily waste collection for granted while we are totally oblivious of the considerable cost of this excellent service.
