Rubbish bins near the Bugibba bus terminus, where tourists flock, are overflowing and there is rubbish in the street since no collection has taken place for about a week.

Mayor Paul Bugeja said yesterday that the bus terminus was the responsibility of the Malta Transport Authority. Two months ago the council informed the ADT it would not continue to clean the area unless the authority was willing to pay for it.

But the authority wrote back telling the council that it would be cleaning the place itself using government employees.

This arrangement seemed to have worked well for a few days but the place is now a mess.
