The Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) will hold their second international tournament for clubs this week at Marsa. The start was encouraging last year and the first edition involved five teams - Tripoli Barbarians (Libya), Avezzano (Italy), Ayos Nikolaos Stags (Cyprus), Northampton Men Only (England) and La Valette XV (Malta).
This year the response has been overwhelming. Two teams were left out but they have already booked a place in next year's tournament.
The teams taking part are: Deri (Wales); Bishops Stortford (England); Walcot (England); Penguins (England); Tarletton Terriers Nomads (England); Cwmbran (Wales); Old Alleynians (England) and La Valette (Malta).
Together with the players, each club has brought along a match official, with Brian Wallis standing out as an international referee. The MRFU is taking this opportunity to see its own match referees improve their level of officiating through the help of their more experienced peers.
The tournament will be played on Saturday, between 1 and 6 p.m., and Sunday, between 2 and 5 p.m.
A women's friendly match will be played on Sunday at 3 p.m.
