More than30,000 people turned up for an annual tractor rally near the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don last Saturday.

Twenty seven tractor-drivers from four Russian regions and Crimea whizzed through the hard terrain in a fierce competition.

One of the rally's favourites, Ali Akhmetov, was well in the lead until he hit a treacherous mud ditch and had to be rescued.

His mistake cleared the way for Igor Nosov who went on to win the race.

The 'horrors' of the 10-kilometer track presented an exciting spectacle for the spectators and a challenge to the drivers.

The winner of the race left the rally with a feeling of personal achievement and the prize of a brand new tractor.
