Ryan Cachia takes over as Siġġiewi mayor

Post was vacated after Julian Borg was elected to parliament

Ryan Cachia is the new Siġġiewi mayor, taking over from Julian Borg after he was elected to parliament in the general election.

Cachia was appointed during an extraordinary local council session on Wednesday.

“This role is only a tool with which, over the next three years, we will build on what we have achieved over the previous two,” he said on Facebook.

He also committed to fulfilling the council’s electoral programme with “humility, motivation and a sense of unity”.

His previous role as deputy mayor will be taken up by Stephanie Vassallo.

The mayorship of the council was vacated when Julian Borg resigned after taking up his seat in parliament as a Nationalist MP.

Borg congratulated Cachia on the new role. “Me and Ryan, we have something in common: A love towards Siġġiewi,” he said.
