South Africa's Ryk Neethling set a world record in the 100 metres individual medley with a time of 52.11 seconds at a Berlin World Cup event on Saturday.

Neethling's effort bettered the mark of 52.51 set by fellow South African Roland Schoeman in Stockholm earlier this month.

There was consolation for Schoeman, though, as he equalled the 100m freestyle short-course world record of 46.25 seconds set by American Ian Crocker in New York on March 27, 2004.
