The Globalair Summer League continued last weekend with the top-of-the-table match between Marsa and Krishna.
Marsa won the toss and elected to field first. Opener Kevin Krishna was first out for only six runs. Sam Dhandapani joined Nowell Khosla and tried to push the run rate. They were eventually both out to Marsa's top wicket-taker of the day, Colin Willis, in consecutive overs. Khosla scored 47 and Dhandapani 27.
This brought together Nadeem Ashraf and Frank Spiteri to the crease. Between them they hit four 6s and four 4s, Ashraf making 29 from 20 balls and Spiteri 41 not out as the Krishna side totalled 163 runs from their allotted overs.
The Marsa opening pair of Ronnie Sacco and Mike Caruana played a remarkable partnership which practically led their team to victory.
Caruana had a close call when he was nearly run out and was also dropped by the keeper on his way to his second half-century of the tournament. He was 67 not out from 47 balls.
Sacco had given one simple chance to the mid-off fielder which the latter spilled. The Marsa batsman was 78 not out from 51 runs. Sacco hit eight 4s and Caruana had five 4s.
Marsa won the game and earned eight points. Krishna had to settle for one and slipped to second place in the standings.
Standings: Marsa 25, Krishna 19, Overseas 14, Melita 0.
