De La Rue's currency printing facility in Malta has recently provided health and safety training to 15 of its senior managers, supervisors and other staff members with key safety responsibilities.

The training course, titled "Managing Safely" and held over five days, was organised through the International Safety Training Centre of Malta, and delivered by an experienced UK lecturer. The course is certified by the UK's Institution of Occupational Safety and Health following successful completion of written and practical examinations.

"This training is a major step in driving forward the company's health and safety performance. While we have come a long way, we recognise we still have lots to do, and with health and safety being firmly on the agenda, training and development of our staff is a primary focus," said Graham Burgess, the site's EHS adviser. A further identical course for another 15 managers and supervisors is being planned for the coming months.

In addition to this externally provided training, all 500 De La Rue staff are in the process of attending a "Behavioural Safety" programme aimed at introducing a culture of "Behavioural Based Safety Performance".

The training certificates were presented by Ron Feenan, general manager at De La Rue Malta.
