¤ British yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur plans to make a second bid for a solo west-to-east trans-Atlantic record later this year after missing out by just 75 minutes last June. MacArthur will go on standby from September 1 aboard her 75-foot trimaran B&Q to attempt a record that has stood for over a decade. It was set by France's Laurent Bourgnon in 1994, and stands at seven days, two hours, 34 minutes and 42 seconds. The attempt will see MacArthur starting at Ambrose Light off New York and finishing at Lizard Point, southwest England. MacArthur raced into the record books in February after she set a record for sailing solo in 71 days around the world.
