Justice Minister Tonio Borg yesterday listed the compensation package of the Chief Justice, judges and magistrates in reply to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi.
He said the Chief Justice has a basic salary of Lm15,513 but his total income with allowances (which are not pensionable) is Lm22,090.
Judges have a basic salary of Lm13,431, rising through allowances to Lm19,196 while magistrates have a basic salary of Lm11,416 rising with allowances to Lm16,878.
They also enjoy the use of a fixed telephone line at their residence, car and driver for official duties, use of a computer, printer and fax machine at their home, three daily newspapers of their choice daily, fuel allowance of Lm1,000, Lm750 and Lm750 respectively, and use of a mobile phone, unlimited in the case of the Chief Justice and limited at Lm350 for judges and magistrates.
