Former Malta and Valletta stalwart Nicky Saliba is poised to take up a new role at the City club as team manager.
Sources close to the club told The Times that Saliba, who hung up his boots at the end of last season after a glittering career spanning 20 years, has had discussions with top club officials over the possibility of joining the management staff.
It is believed that 37-year-old Saliba has already agreed to take over as team manager and all that remains is for the committee to formalise his appointment during a meeting with the players.
Saliba's main task will be to co-ordinate and consolidate relations between the club committee and players.
The Citizens, this season under the charge of Bulgarian coach Atanas Marinov, obtained their second victory in five matches last Friday after beating Marsaxlokk 2-0.
This week, Valletta are hoping to unveil three new sponsors after concluding negotiations with a number of companies.
The Citizens have been without a main sponsor this season after their agreement with former partners Konica expired at the end of last season.
