Salvino Busuttil, a former director-general of the Foundation of International Studies, passed away yesterday, aged 80.

An economist and philosopher, Prof. Busuttil served as director of the Malta Development Corporation and as dean of the faculty of arts.

He held various positions at Unesco, was vice-president of the Mediterranean Centre for Human Rights and for several years chairman of the Malta Council for Economic Development and of the Valletta Rehabilitation Project.
