As part of their project on "The Sea", six-year old children from San Andrea School, l-Imselliet, explored various aspects of the sea, including the hazards of marine litter on its inhabitants.

In association with PADI Project Aware UK, the Grade 3 children went out on a beach clean-up on October 29 at Mellieha Bay. Within a short time, the children collected various amounts of litter from the beach, ranging from 203 bottle caps to 1,856 cigarette ends.

All litter, eventually, is washed out to sea, where marine life is affected, through suffocation, intocixation and entanglement.

Children have learned to be aware of the dangers of marine litter, for the sea surrounds our islands and offers us a wealth of resources.
