San Anton School of L-Imselliet is again participating in a Comenius project. The Early and Middle Schools, together with schools from nine other participating countries, are focusing on "Art and Culture as a source and inspiration for extra value in Education".
Ms Sandra Mezzapelle, head of Early School and Mr Kenneth Deguara, Middle School PE teacher, met with other heads and teachers from Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Romania, Germany, UK, France, Spain and Turkey in Attika, Greece, for the preparatory meeting.
This first meeting, held in the third week of November, gave the Maltese delegation the opportunity to establish personal and friendly relations with partners from all the participating schools. The meeting was held to plan the different tasks and actions which would be carried out during the rest of the scholastic year.
Now students aged three to ten are enthusiastically working on mini-projects which when assembled together will offer a reflection of Maltese art and culture with particular emphasis on Maltese folklore and heritage. In time traditional Christmas cards, crafts, carols and baking will be passed on to all participating countries.
San Anton School was founded by parents and their participation in this project will be considered as of high value. In fact, one of the parents, who is of Romanian origin, has already offered to give a series of talks to students about her beautiful country, which will be the second country the Maltese team will be visiting. The school has also decided to use two rooms to display the various exhibits that the different countries will be eventually sending. These rooms will be called the Comenius Rooms and parents are welcome to come and see what young children from different parts of Europe are capable of producing, under the guidance of enthusiastic teachers.
