ADPD leader Sandra Gauci suggests she will quit politics
Gauci criticised the gender quota which will likely exclude her in favour of other candidates who received fewer votes
ADPD leader Sandra Gauci has hinted that she will call it a day as leader of the green party.
In an Instagram video uploaded Sunday night, Gauci said she was satisfied with her own result and felt that her candidature was well-received.
However, she criticised the gender quota mechanism, which will likely exclude her in favour of Labour and PN candidates who received less overall votes than her.
Gauci received 594 votes on the sixth district before she was dropped from the race. In the 12th district, she received 950 votes overall, battling it out until the 18th count of votes.
“They say you should leave at the top, and that’s 99% what I’m going to do,” she said.
She thanked her followers for supporting her throughout the campaign and said she hopes to see more women in politics moving forward.
Gauci also pointed out that ADPD and Momentum together received around 8,000 first-count votes.
“The third-party voice is geting stronger with time,” she said.
While Gauci did not commit to resigning as ADPD leader, she made it clear that she will be taking a break from politics.
“Thank you to all those who voted. I hope I inspire more young people, especially women, to take this road. My road probably stops here, however I’m satisfied.”
