Sannat Council recently commissioned Architect Edward Scerri to draw up a report, giving its views on Mgarr ix-Xini bay, to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) .
Pointing out that Mgarr ix-Xini valley shelters the only bay in Sannat, the report highlights the parking problem in the area, and urges MEPA to discourage drivers from parking their vehicles at shore level.
"Parking space at Mgarr ix-Xini is very limited, even when one includes the bay itself. The bay's car park provides about five parking spaces. For this reason, Sannat council has filed an application to extend the existing lay-by situated further uphill to increase parking space."
It is also being recommended, that at shore level, protection and prevention measures are installed to prohibit cars from parking on the shore itself.
The council points out that Mgarr ix-Xini lacks a public convenience, and that it has applied to build one.
The council also states that the access road to Mgarr ix-Xini is very narrow, especially along certain stretches, so it was proposing to create more lay-bys.
The report is suggesting, in view of the difficult access to parts of the valley, to create a pedestrian route from the bay to the depths of the valley, passing near the old water pumping station, currently in disuse.
