Labour Leader Alfred Sant yesterday said it is Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi's duty to provide an explanation as to how the cost of the Cirkewwa and Mgarr terminals' project "exploded" by at least 60 per cent and why, two years after it was meant to have been completed, it had not.
Speaking during a press conference in Mgarr, Gozo, Dr Sant said that, since 1999, there had been several versions given about the projects' time of completion and its cost.
Now, in a recent development, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority approved a new project for the Mgarr terminal. The project has been radically changed and previously built structures have to be demolished, he said.
Faced with all this confusion, Dr Sant said, one could not help but question what type of coordination existed in the Cabinet about this project.
He added that delays in completing the projects had a negative impact on Gozo Channel ferries.
