Labour leader Alfred Sant made a last pitch for votes in Gozo this afternoon and told a mass meeting in Xewkija that while his party was being accused of mudslinging, it was the Gonzi government that had created the mud.

Speaking with a very hoarse voice, Dr Sant said Labour was promising a better quality of life and a plan to better use the resources and potential which Malta and Gozo had.

This government, he said, preferred lies to the truth, corruption to honesty and laziness to efficiency.

But under Labour, Malta would experience a new beginning of good governance under a government which cared.

Dr Sant said Labour would breathe new life into Xewkija industrial estate and the tourism industry in Gozo and give assistance to farmers and fishermen.

He renewed the Labour promise to halve the surcharge and remove VAT on education and said that under Labour student stipends will stay and the health service will be free of charge.
