Television presenter Lou Bondì was speechless - if just momentarily - yesterday when Opposition Leader Alfred Sant offered him a one-on-one debate on Super One television.

The offer came at the end of the daily press conference organised by the Labour Party, during which four questions are taken from reporters, two of whom are from the Labour or Labour-leaning media.

Mr Bondì complained at the end of the press conference that he wanted to ask a question but had not been given the opportunity to do so in the last four sessions he had attended.

Dr Sant, rolling his eyes theatrically, muttered: "Mr Bondì, Mr Bondì", and then said that as he obviously had so many questions to ask, perhaps he would consider a one-hour programme.

Mr Bondì accepted, although no date has yet been set for the programme.

Dr Sant boycotts programmes by Where's Everybody, the company run by Lou Bondì, Peppi Azzopardi and P.J. Vassallo, which produces Xarabank and Bondì+.

"We must have invited Dr Sant to take part in our discussion hundreds of times over the last few years, always getting turned down. We have asked him to take part in either Xarabank or Bondì+ some 25 times this season alone," a jubilant Lou Bondì said.
