Opposition leader Alfred Sant, accompanied by Labour MP Charles Mangion, left yesterday for a 10-day visit to Australia, the Labour Party said.

Dr Sant and Dr Mangion will be meeting members of the Maltese communities in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.

In the run-up to the next general election, the Labour Party wanted to know the aspirations and needs of the Maltese communities down under in order to include them in the party's plans, it said.

They will be meeting also representatives from the financial, business and tourism sectors to look into the possibility of opportunities of trade and commercial activities between the two countries.

Dr Sant and Dr Mangion will be meeting delegates from the political parties and among other things extend to them their sympathy in the wake of the Bali tragedy, the party said.
