VALLETTA - 2, HIBERNIANS - 1
Valletta joined Birkirkara at the top of the Premier League standings when they had the better of champions Hibernians 2-1 at the National Stadium this afternoon.
It was former Hibs striker Terrence Scerri who did all the damage to their former employers. In fact the lanky forward put the Citizens ahead after 15 minutes when he turned home Steve Bezzina’s low cross.
The Paolites were stunned and on 23 minutes they fell further behind when Scerri was first to Roderick Briffa’s cross and hammered the ball past Muscat.
Hibs managed to pull a goal back five minutes later when from an Andrew Cohen corner Elton Morelato’s shot on the turn was blasted home by Ben Camilleri.
Declan O’Brien could have added a third for the Citizens early in second half but his volley crashed against the crossbar.
Hibs ended the match with ten men when Miguel Lopes De Pina was shown a straight red card for hitting an opponent.
Scerri was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
