Salvinu Schembri and Nicky Saliba will be honoured for their achievements in football during next weekend's Malta Football Awards presentations night at the Westin Dragonara Hotel.
Organisers first nominated five personalities for the special award. Schembri and Saliba were selected after a vote from club officials and sports writers.
Last year's beneficiaries of the special award for their careers in football were former Rabat and Valletta defender Joe Cilia and Stefan Sultana, the Hamrun striker with most goals in the league's all-time history.
Despite an illustrious career, particularly in the 50s, Schembri, who played for Sliema and Valletta, did not win the Footballer of the Year award since the contest was introduced in 1954.
He was the national team's captain when Malta played their first official competitive match at the old Gzira Stadium, a friendly against Austria which the visitors won 3-2.
According to some statisticians, Saliba is probably the most decorated Maltese player in terms of honours won after a long and brilliant career for Valletta. He was twice Footballer of the Year in 1992 and 1999.
Meanwhile, Football Awards organisers announced that 23 goals were chosen for the 'Best Goal of the Season' category.
The selection was made after the panel viewed a series of goals from last season's Premier League and FA Trophy.
