The lack of resources in schools is being felt more this year after the government reduced the funds allocated to schools, Labour MP Carmelo Abela alleged yesterday.

In a statement on the occasion of the first day of the scholastic year, he said this followed the introduction of 18 per cent VAT on education and the eco tax which is another financial strain on schools.

Referring to reform in the education sector, Mr Abela said the Labour Party made it clear that any reform or change should first and foremost safeguard students' interests. He said any changes should lead to an improvement in education.
