The Australian High Commission in Malta, in conjunction with BRL Hardy, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Australian Ballet with screenings of its performances.
The history of dance in Australia is being celebrated from May 22 to 26, with the screening of Nureyev`s Don Quixote, Coppelia and Nutcracker: the story of Clara by the Australian Ballet at The Cinema, St James Cavalier.
The original film of the Australian Ballet`s performance of Don Quixote was directed and choreographed by Rudolf Nureyev and premiered in Sydney in 1973.
Coppelia was filmed at the Sydney Opera House under the artistic direction of Maina Giulgud.
In a departure from tradition, Graeme Murphy transformed Tchaikovsky`s Nutcracker, which centres around Clara`s figure and has been described as a narrative ballet at its most involving.
For more information on the screenings, contact The Cinema at St James Cavalier on tel. 21 223216, or the Australian High Commission on tel. 21 338201.
