A car which was seen falling down Dingli Cliffs this afternoon was empty, rescuers said. It did not have a number plate.

The car was seen falling by a passer-by shortly before 3 p.m. He also told the police that the car burst into flames at the bottom of the cliff.

The AFM and the Civil Protection Department immediately launched a rescue operation.

An Alouette helicopter quickly arrived on the scene followed shortly after by CPD rescuers who abseiled down the cliff face to check the wreckage.
