The president of the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association has suggested that different rates should be charged according to season for Gozo services such as the ferry and taxis.
Speaking at a meeting on tourism in Gozo with a delegation that included the Malta Tourism Authority and the Gozo Tourism Association, Justin Zammit Tabona said this was a way of tackling the problem of seasonality, which affected Gozo more than it did Malta.
He said the issue should be tackled in a comprehensive manner, by packaging the product and service offered accordingly. Different rates could be charged for the high and low seasons, he added.
Among the other issues discussed was cleanliness in Gozo, the development of the Ramla l-Hamra as a blue flag beach and the development of diving sites, climbing sites, cycling routes and country walks.
The MHRA also brought up the roads issue, including those in Marsalforn, Xlendi and the access road from Mgarr to Ghajnsielem.
The MHRA has this year held a number of meetings with its members and other operators in Gozo.
