Second edition of Malta Biennale launched, to open to public on March 14
It is organised by Heritage Malta and held under the artistic direction of Rosa Martínez
The second edition of the Malta Biennale was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Sacra Infermeria, Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta.
The biennale, themed Clean | Clear | Cut, runs till May 29, with three days of previews which close on March 13. The Biennale will be open to the public on March 14.
Organised by Heritage Malta, and held under the artistic direction of Rosa Martínez, the biennale is expected to include the participation of 130 artists from 43 countries.
It features 27 national and thematic pavilions spread across 11 Heritage Malta museums and historical sites in Valletta, Vittoriosa, Victoria and Xagħra.
In a statement, Heritage Malta said the biennale was "conceived with a vision to create an open dialogue between the past and the present, between cultural heritage and contemporary art".
Through HM’s historical sites and museums, it is set to become "the catalyst which enhances accessibility and engagement between audiences and space, history and artefact".
The Malta Biennale is being held under the distinguished patronage of President Myriam Spiteri Debono and UNESCO. It is being organised in partnership with Arts Council Malta, Visit Malta, the Valletta Cultural Agency, and Public Broadcasting Services, and in collaboration with the ministries for culture, foreign affairs and planning.
