An international seminar on Maltese sculptor Melchiorre Gafà (1636-1667) is to be held in October, with the aim of studying the artist within the context of the development of Roman baroque architecture.
Sponsored by the Valletta Rehabilitation Project, in collaboration with the University of Malta, the seminar is entitled Melchiorre Gafà: Maltese Genius of the Roman Baroque.
Top international scholars in the field of Italian baroque sculpture are to participate in the seminar, which is being held on October 25 and is open to the public. The venue has not been announced.
It is being organised by Keith Sciberras, who has been studying the sculptor for years.
The seminar is being held under the patronage of President Guido de Marco.
