Danilo Ikodinovic scored with 69 seconds left to give Serbia and Montenegro an 8-7 win over Olympic champions Hungary in the gold medal match of the men's waterpolo at the world swimming championships last weekend in Canada.
The dramatic win avenged Serbia and Montenegro's 8-7 defeat by the Hungarians in the gold medal match at last year's Olympics in Athens.
Before the final, Greece edged Croatia 11-10 in extra time to claim the bronze medal.
The gold medal clash between the two east European rivals took on the atmosphere of a soccer match.
The stadium was packed to capacity with supporters from both countries standing and chanting throughout a see-saw contest in which the lead changed hands nine times.
Ikodinovic led the Serbs with four goals while Norbert Madaras, Tamas Molnar and Peter Biros each scored twice for Hungary.
