A shooting incident at a hospital left several people killed or wounded in the southwestern German town of Loerrach yesterday, police in Freiburg said.

Police said their information so far was that it was a woman who had started the shooting and that she was now dead.

Television news channels in Germany put the death toll at four, including the woman.

“The situation is now under control,” said a police spokesman.

The shooting started at 6 p.m. (1600 GMT) at Saint Elizabeth hospital in the centre of Loerrach, which lies near Germany’s borders with France and Switzerland.
