It is useless for Joseph Mangion, BirdLife president, to exhort the government (May 10) to tighten the weak hunting laws. Prior to the last election (1998), the present Nationalist government, then in opposition, solemnly promised not to change the laws to the hunters` detriment.
This was after the previous Labour government (1996-1998) had, a few months before, eased the legislation introduced by the former Nationalist government (1992-1996). Shame on both parties.
