As part of its Piggy Bank Campaign, L-iStrina is this year giving out yellow wristbands to every person who pops a coin into one of these money boxes which are being distributed in shops all over Malta and Gozo.
Jonathan Montebello and Jasper Azzopardi, two L-iStrina volunteers, have been delegated the task of driving around with a car-full of piggy banks and wristbands to give away to any shop owner who will take them.
"Most of the shop owners are willing to chip in and do their part but not all. It depends on the locality and also on the size of the shop's counter," said Mr Montebello.
"It also depends on the type of shop. Smaller, more everyday shops like stationers are more likely to accept a piggy bank than the larger outlets," added Mr Azzopardi.
Endless driving, running in and out of shops, repeating the same litany to every shop owner - doesn't it get monotonous?
"It's a lot of hard work and commitment, but in the end you're meeting a lot of people, and of course helping those that need it," he continued.
Despite driving in rush hour and bad weather, and having to restock the car with piggy banks and wristbands, the two face their task with a smile and piles of patience.
"This is what L-iStrina is all about, helping others and feeling good about it, a warm and smiley feeling inside because you know that your aim is to help those who are less fortunate."
