Three siblings were injured, two of them seriously, in a traffic accident involving two cars and a bowser at Bahar ic-Caghaq yesterday morning.

The police said the accident occurred at about 8.30 a.m. on the coast road, near the Splash and Fun complex.

According to the police, a Clio car driven by a 22-year-old girl from San Gwann, moving in the direction of St Andrew's, collided with a Bedford bowser, driven by a 29-year-old man from Ghaxaq. A Tavria car, driven by a 42-year-old man from St Paul's Bay, then went out of control and crashed into the bowser.

The civil protection department had to intervene to extract the driver of the Tavria, together with two passengers in the same car - his 35-year-old brother and 46-year-old sister.

All three were taken to hospital, two suffering from grievous injuries. None, however, is in critical condition, the police said.

Traffic on the coast road was halted for a number of hours, causing long tailbacks. The police had no choice but to close off traffic heading towards St Andrew's.

The Naxxar district police are heading the investigations.
