Gylfi Sigurdsson continued his impressive recent goalscoring form with a brace as Swansea took another big step towards Barclays Premier League survival with a 3-0 victory at Fulham.

The on-loan Hoffenheim midfielder took his tally to five goals in the last six games as the Swans secured their third successive league victory to provisionally climb up to eighth spot in the table.

Buoyed by last week's stunning 1-0 victory over Manchester City, which followed a 2-0 triumph over Wigan, the promoted side edged the opening period at Craven Cottage thanks to Sigurdsson's 36th-minute header.

Sigurdsson then doubled his side's advantage in the 66th minute before Joe Allen made sure of the points with a third goal 13 minutes from time as Swansea moved 17 points clear of the relegation zone.

In today's other Premier League match, bottom side Wigan missed the chance to climb out of the relegation zone after they were held 1-1 at home by West Brom.

Wigan had only won once at the DW Stadium this season, with that victory coming against QPR back in August, but Roberto Martinez's side will count themselves unlucky not to have picked up a vital three points today after twice hitting the woodwork and also taking the lead.

Emmerson Boyce and James McCarthy were both denied by the frame of the goal before the break before James McArthur put Wigan ahead in the 54th minute when he turned in Victor Moses' cross.

However, that lead lasted just 11 minutes before West Brom, whose six away wins before today is a record bettered only by the two Manchester clubs, drew level through Wigan old boy Paul Scharner's header from Chris Brunt's corner.
