David Buttigieg may be correct when he refers to John Guillaumier's objections "to reading about ordinations in The Times" as "silly objections" (July 19).

To be honest, I may also share his views. Not only on this particular point, but also when he notes that he is "sure there will be (future letters from Mr Guillaumier) as long as it is against the Church"!

Nevertheless, I still keep in mind Apostle Paul's exhortations to Bishop Timothy: "Reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine: but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: and will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth and turn aside rather to fables. But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry" (2 TIM. iv. 2-5).

And to Titus about the duties of Church leaders: "holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to confute opponents" (TIT. I.9).

I could also quote Proverbs, wherein it is said: "They that rebuke him shall be praised, and a blessing shall come upon them" (PROV. xxiv, 25).
