Singer Prince's private jet was reportedly forced to make an emergency landing in Illinois after the singer fell ill with the flu and had to be hospitalised.

Celebrity website TMZ says Prince's private plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois on Friday morning after the singer fell ill from the flu mid flight.

A representative for the singer said he had just performed a concert in Atlanta the day before, despite his symptoms and felt worse when he got on the plane.

He was rushed to a local hospital and was released later that evening, and promptly flew home for some rest.

Last week, the 57-year-old singer reportedly canceled two shows because of the flu.
