The picturesque surroundings of Ġnejna played host to Round Two of the 2009 Malta Hill Climb championship, organised by the Island Car Club.

This event attracted a good 54 entries that varied from standard road legal vehicles right up to single-seater Formula type racing cars. Spectators were numerous even if the weather was rather inclement, particularly in the morning sessions with the gusting winds.

As usual, the organisers made sure that all aspects concerning the safe and efficient running of the race were in place.

In fact, all drivers managed four timed runs on the day despite some hiccups due to a series of minor incidents.

The Ġnejna hillclimb starts with a quick sprint followed by a slightly downhill right and then left-hander and continues with another sprint up to the second chicane. Once past, another quick sprint leads to a fast left-hand bend followed by a steep uphill leading to the final fast right-hander and the finish line.

At the end of the day the fastest man on the hill was Hubert Camilleri in his Group 6 Chevron F3.

He clocked a time of 34.700 seconds followed by Lino Brincat, in his Alfa Dallara Group 6 (35.758 sec.), and Paul Deguara in his Moto Flash Group 6 (35.865 sec.).

All top three racers on the day were single-seaters.
