The Ursuline Sisters Crèche of Sliema yesterday benefited from an unexpected €100 donation, after a court ordered that money confiscated from the sale of drugs be donated to charity.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella made this ruling in the case of 19-year-old Somali Abdi Ali Mahammed.

The man who resides in Gżira pleaded guilty to trafficking seven grams of cannabis resin in Paceville last Wednesday. He was sent to nine months in jail and fined €600. Another Somali man, Abdikadir Hashi Said, 22, also from Gżira, who had supplied the drug to the convicted man, pleaded not guilty but was denied bail.
