Six people were yesterday night detained by Armed Forces of Malta personnel in a vehicle check-point on the outskirts of Rabat.
AFM officers first observed one vehicle slowing down before reaching the check point, and objects were seen thrown out of a window.
These objects were retrieved and found to be cocaine sachets.
One of the vehicle’s three passengers, all in their twenties and from Marsascala, admitted possession and was handed over to officers from the Drug Squad, who were called on site.
Later on, another vehicle’s passenger was observed hiding an item under the driver’s seat, and a search yielded a cocaine sachet.
Another used cocaine sachet was found under the driver’s carpet flooring, and an empty third sachet with drug residue in the vacant stereo housing-compartment.
The 19-year old driver and his 27-year old passenger, both men from Birzebbuga, admitted that the sachets belonged to them and were currently assisting the police in their investigations.
The AFM also stopped a vehicle that stopped abruptly. In it were two passengers from Ghaxaq in their 20s. An amount of ecstacy was found in the car.
