Over a hundred teenagers converged on the Tal-Qroqq, Msida Subway yesterday and vented their creative energy during the first ever Skate Fest on the island.

Organised by Move! in collaboration with the Malta Skaters United, the activity included graffiti competitions, break-dancing and skating.

Local bands added to the entertainment with artists Batteries Not Included, Avril Lasagna, Sputnik Sweetheart and IQ performing.

The activity was organised to promote the development of the roundabout above the Tal-Qroqq tunnels as a skate park where skaters could practise their sport in a safe environment.

The roundabout in question is already a popular meeting place for many skaters and skateboarders who would like to develop the site.

The site is ideal for their needs since it is in a central location and below street level.

Skateboarding is one of the few sports in Malta, which requires practically no apparatus to support it.
